The Želinský meander, with a size of 174.5 ha, was declared a natural monument in 1992. The area is protected geologically and geomorphologically. It is home to deeply cut valleys of the meandering Ohře River between the Nechranický dam and the village of Želina. A range of protected and endangered animals live on the rocky slopes of the canyon valley and several prominent plant species occur here. The rocky, hardly accessible slopes are overgrown with steppe, forest-steppe and forest vegetation.
